On the Divergence Mechanisms Analysis of a Vibrating Blade subjected to Repetitive Rubs with an Abradable Coating

Abstract Aeronautical compressor fans currently operate with minimal blade-casing clearance. This therefore makes the occurrence of rub events very likely. Under specific circumstances, blade undergoes excessive amplification contact-induced oscillations, called hereafter divergence, which can be critical for structural integrity engine. paper proposes an investigation mechanisms responsible divergence. Experiments are conducted on a fully instrumented laboratory set-up, consisting single flat being moved towards rotating cylinder to initiate interactions, while monitoring vibrations and evolution wear abradable coating. Two synchronization have been identified as facilitating divergence: (i) inherent set-up between vibration modes related horizontal vertical motion blade; (ii) preferential blade-coating interactions in vicinity periodically distributed irregularities coating act source excitation vibrations.
